Sophomore guard
John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) scored his highest point total in his last eight games but it was not enough for The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team as the Golden Eagles fell to Cortland Tuesday night 85-67. Brockport's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) records drops to 9-7. Cortland remains in second place in the conference with a 12-4 record.
Ivy finished with 15 points and knocked down all six of his free throw attempts.
Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) scored 13 points in the first half and finished with 15 while
Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison) scored 10 second half points and finished with 12.
Brockport fell behind early in the first half as Cortland jumped out to a quick 12-2 lead.
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) and Green combined to score Brockport's first 15 points of the game before
Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) was fouled on a three-point attempt at the 7:53 mark. Legister made the shot and the free throw to cut Cortland's lead to seven, 26-19. Both teams traded shots for the remainder of the half as both scored 16 points in the final seven minutes. Brockport trailed at the half, 42-35.
Jackson scored just two points in the first half, but came out in the second half and scored eight points in the first 4:26 to cut into Cortland's lead. Ivy hit two free throws and a three point shot on consecutive possessions to bring Brockport to within four with under 11 minutes to play. The Golden Eagles trailed 62-56 after Ivy's three, but the Red Dragons slowly built their lead back up to double digits. Cortland scored on eight of their next 11 possessions to bring the lead up to 15, 77-52. The Red Dragons rode out their lead the rest of the way for the conference victory.
The loss snaps the Golden Eagles' four game winning streak. Brockport and Geneseo entered Tuesday in a tie for fourth place in the conference standings. Geneseo fell to first-place Oswego on Tuesday, meaning that both Brockport and Geneseo remain in a tie with their 9-7 records. Both teams have two games remaining, each against Plattsburgh and Potsdam this upcoming weekend to close out the regular season and determine the SUNYAC playoff seeding.
