Tennis Opens Season With a Win

The Golden Eagles drop Alfred 6-3

Mackenzie Rounds scored a victory in No. 1 singles for Brockport
The College at Brockport Women's Tennis team started off its season with a solid win over Alfred State on Saturday, dropping the Saxons 6-3. Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) and Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) both scored singles victories.

Rounds, playing at No. 1 singles, defeated her opponent by scores of 6-4 and 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Lamont took down her opponent 6-2, 6-3.

Also scoring wins for the Golden Eagles in singles was Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) was forced to go to a third set, but came out with the victory with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 10-3. Playing at No. 6 singles, Sarah Stromski (Peconic, NY/Southold) won with scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Bohman and Lamont came out with the lone doubles victory for Brockport, winning 8-4. Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Iyanna Sinclair (Brooklyn, NY/Enterprise), and Brittany McLaughlin (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon) all scored exhibition singles victories. Derose and Sinclair and McLaughlin and Teresa DiNovo (Albany, NY/Colonie) scored exhibition doubles victories for Brockport.

“As a whole, we played very well” said head coach Ben Klempka. “Mackenzie (Rounds) and Rachel (Lamont) shined at first and second singles for us today.”

The Golden Eagles open up the home portion of their schedule on Sept. 5 as they take on Roberts Wesleyan at 4:00 pm.
