The College at Brockport Women's Field Hockey team scored two first half goals to take its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory of the season. The Golden Eagles dropped Morrisville 2-0 on goals from
Ashley Elmes (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) and
Taryn Rossi (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas).
The Golden Eagles, playing in their first home conference game of the season, got on the board at the 9:26 mark as Elmes scored her first goal of the season off of a rebound.
Jessica Blind (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) was credited with the assist on the play. Rossi gave Brockport a two-goal advantage exactly seven minutes later on an assist from
Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia).
The Golden Eagles dominated the Mustangs in every category throughout the entire game. Brockport allowed just three shots in each period while the Golden Eagles totaled 23 shots on the day. Brockport also held a marginal advantage in penalty corners with 12 while Morrisville managed just three throughout the game.
The Golden Eagles have defeated the Mustangs seven straight times, dating back to 2006. During that span, Brockport has outscored Morrisville 20-4.
With the win, Brockport improves to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the SUNYAC. A large part of the success is credited to goalie
Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) who made four saves against the Mustangs. Brockport's last three wins have come as a shutout with Schreiner in net, giving the senior 11 career shutouts.
Brockport's next game will be a nonconference matchup against Ithaca on Oct. 2 at 4:00 pm. The Golden Eagles return to SUNYAC play with a pair of home games against Oneonta on Oct. 5 and New Paltz on Oct. 6.
