Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) added 40 assists and 10 digs to lead The College at Brockport Volleyball team to a split of the two matches played Saturday on the second day of the Brockport Invitational Tournament in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Brockport.
Brockport (6-15) defeated Alfred University in three games and dropped a 3-0 decision to Potsdam. The scores of the Alfred match were 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16. In the loss to Potsdam the game scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16.
Against Potsdam, Brockport jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage before the Bears answered with three straight points to tie the game. With Brockport leading 5-3, Potsdam scored 10 of the next 12 points for a 13-7 lead before building a 20-11 advantage later in the contest. The Golden Eagles rallied scoring six of the next seven points to trim the lead to 21-17 before Potsdam scored four of the last five points for the win.
In the second game, Brockport jumped out to another quick 3-0 lead but Potsdam answered with a 6-0 run to take a lead. The Golden Eagles scored five of the next seven points to tie the score at 8-8 before the Bears scored six straight to open up a lead. With Potsdam holding a 19-11 lead, Brockport called a timeout and regrouped to record five of the next seven points cutting the lead to 21-16 but Potsdam rallied to score four of the final five points for the 25-17 win.
In game three, Brockport held a 5-4 lead early on before a Potsdam 10-3 rally opened up a 14-7 advantage. Brockport battled back and trailed by three points at 18-15 before the Bears closed out the match with seven of the final eight points.
In the Alfred match, Brockport used an early 7-2 run to post a 13-8 lead and later scored four straight points for a 20-12 lead. After a late Brockport timeout, the Golden Eagles scored four of the final five points for the first game victory.
In game two, Brockport trailed 7-6 but Snyder served 13 consecutive points with three aces to open up a 19-7 lead. The Saxons rallied late with an 11-3 run to make it a 22-18 Brockport lead but the Golden Eagles finished strong for the 25-19 win.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in game three and led 18-9 before Alfred called a timeout. The Saxons responded with five straight points but Brockport score six of the final seven points for the win.
Brockport will play a match against RIT Tuesday night in Rochester before playing two matches Saturday in a tri-meet at Nazareth College.
