Brockport Takes Care of St. John Fisher

The Golden Eagles defeated the Cardinals 7-2 on Friday

Katelyn Richenberg earned victories at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles on Friday-
Senior Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) provided a solid come from behind victory in No. 3 singles as The College at Brockport Women's Tennis team defeated St. John Fisher Friday evening 7-2. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 on the year while the Cardinals dropped their first match of the year.

After a dominating performance in No. 3 doubles where Richenberg and fellow teammate Nicole DeRose (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) dominated St. John Fisher 8-0, Richenberg fought back to earn a win for Brockport. Richenberg dropped the first game 6-2 but rallied back to take down Lauren Burke 6-3 in the second game to force a tiebreaker. Richenberg and Burke battled it out until Richenberg came out on top with an 11-9 victory to take the set.

Head coach Ben Klempka praised Richenberg for battling back. “Katelyn's victory was the one game that stood out” said Klempka. “She came all the way back to earn that win for us.”

Rachel Lamont (Bloomfield, NY/Honeoye) and Lauren Bohman (Sayville, NY/Sayville) scored an 8-3 victory in No. 2 doubles for Brockport.

Also scoring victories in singles was Mackenzie Rounds (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley) at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Amy Kurmis (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) took No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-3 while Bohman took the No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Sarah Stromski (Peconic, NY/Southold) earned her second career victory at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-2.

Brockport will play its fourth match in eight days tomorrow as the Golden Eagles travel to Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils for a SUNYAC contest. The match is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
