Olivia Sylvestro (Palm City, FL/Martin County) scored a team-best 9.475 in vaulting and a 9.40 on the floor to lead The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to a 179.450-177-825 victory over Ithaca College Saturday in the season opening meet in Ben Light Gymnasium in Ithaca.
All five scores in vaulting were at least 9.0 as sophomore
Amanda Carney (Walpole, MA/Walpole) scored a 9.375, junior
Lexi King (Glendale, AZ/Mountain Ridge) had a 9.4, senior
Elizabeth Levy (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) added a 9.15 and fellow senior
Taryn Kateridge (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) came in with a 9.0 as Brockport (1-0) scored a 46.400 on the event.
Three gymnasts cracked the 9.0 mark on the floor exercise as Sylvestro had her 9.4, King added a 9.275 and junior
Jessica Rockafellow (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) was credited with a 9.17 routine from the judges.
The balance beam was the turning point of the meet as Brockport managed four scores of at least 9.0 and had nearly a 3.0 point advantage over the Bombers (0-1) in the event. Senior
Kelcie Morris (Hagerstown, MD/Smithsburg) led the Golden Eagles with a 9.225 followed by Levy with a 9.175, junior
Samantha Spaid (Green, OH/Green) with a 9.150 and freshman
Amanda Rota (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) with a 9.025.
Brockport's lowest event score was on the uneven bars with no scores eclipsing the 9.0 threshold. Junior
Kathryn Coghlan (Wappingers Falls, NY/John Jay East Fishkill) scored a team-best 8.8 on the bars.
Levy was the top All-Around performer on the day with a 35.150 total score.
Brockport opens the home portion of the schedule Saturday hosting Springfield College at 1 pm, January 19.
