Box Score

A strong second half performance from the Oswego Lakers proved to be too much for The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team as the Golden Eagles fell 76-68 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) led all scorers with 23 points on the night.

The Golden Eagles held a lead midway through the first half and trailed by six points at halftime but the Lakers opened up a double-digit lead early on in the second half. Ivy brought the game to within nine with two minutes to play after a three-point play and two free throws but the Lakers held off a Brockport comeback. Brockport falls to 4-4 in conference play while Oswego takes the regular season sweep and improves to 5-2 in the SUNYAC.

Ivy scored the first six points of the game for Brockport until the Lakers went on a 12-0 run to go up early. The junior went on another 6-0 run himself midway through the first half to put Brockport up 25-22. Ivy and Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East), former high school teammates, combined for 22 of Brockport's 28 first half points as the Golden Eagles went into halftime trailing 34-28.

Following back-to-back buckets from Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa), Oswego went on a 13-3 run to go up 49-35 with 16:45 remaining. The Lakers led by as much as 18 in the second half. The Golden Eagles slowly chipped away, bringing the game to single digits with under three minutes to play, but Oswego was able to slow Brockport's offense and hold on for the victory.

Brockport's downfall came from beyond the arc as the Golden Eagles shot just 5-25 from three-point range. While Brockport shot just 20 percent from deep, the Golden Eagles hit 65.5 percent (19-29) of their two-point shots on the night. The five three-pointers are the second fewest for Brockport this season.

Ivy hit 9-12 shots on the night and sank 4-5 from the charity stripe. The junior also grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Caruthers finished with 18 points on six of 11 shooting, blocked a team-high four shots while grabbing four rebounds and collecting two steals.

Brockport returns home to the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium tomorrow for an 8:00 pm matchup against the Cortland Red Dragons. Admission to the game is free for all fans.
