Box Score

One game after allowing the most points this season, The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team scored its most of the year after defeating Buffalo State 97-81 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Tuesday night at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. Five players reached double-figures for the Golden Eagles as Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) scored a game-high 23 points.

The Golden Eagles relied heavily on the three-point shot as they have all season, hitting four from beyond the arc in the first 10 minutes of the game. Brockport grabbed the lead at the 16:00 mark of the first half and never looked back. Brockport led by as many as 22 points in the second half as the Golden Eagles improved their SUNYAC record to 5-5. Brockport is currently in fifth place in the conference standings after the Bengals fell to 4-5 in league play.

Jordan Major (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) opened the game with a three-point shot, the third time in the last four games the senior has managed that feat. Following a Buffalo State basket at the 13:40 mark, Brockport went on a 9-0 run to go up 23-10. The Bengals put together an 8-0 run of their own but the Golden Eagles were able to maintain a double-digit lead most of the first half. Brockport went into halftime leading 48-37.

Brockport scored three of the first four baskets of the second half as the Golden Eagles gradually increased their lead. John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) hit a jumper at the 11:49 mark to put Brockport up 72-50. Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) sank a jumper to give Brockport a 95-75 advantage and eclipse Brockport's previous season-high of 93 points set against St. Lawrence on Jan. 4.

The 97 points are the most for Brockport since Jan. 22, 2010 when the Golden Eagles defeated Plattsburgh 100-96 in overtime. Brockport's previous single-game high in regulation came against New Paltz on Jan. 31, 2009 in a 103-70 victory.

Ivy finished the game with 20 points, his ninth 20-point game this year. The junior is just 53 points away from reaching the 1,000 point career milestone. The junior shot 8-14 from the floor and grabbed three rebounds to go along with three assists and three steals.

Major sank three of five three-point shots and finished with a career-high 19 points. Legister shot 66 percent from the floor, scoring 13 points while Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) chipped in 10 points. Caruthers grabbed six steals on the night, the second time he has reached that number this year. The first-year member of the Golden Eagles has collected 21 steals in just eight games played.

Brockport, who ranks last in rebound margin in the SUNYAC, outrebounded the Bengals 40-29. The 29 rebounds are the fewest allowed by the Golden Eagles all season. Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) grabbed a team-high seven boards while Major and Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) each collected six.

Brockport will host Oneonta at 8:00 pm on Friday night followed by a 4:00 pm matchup against New Paltz on Saturday.
