The College at Brockport Men's Basketball season came to an abrupt end Tuesday night as the Golden Eagles fell to Oswego 78-66 in the first round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Four different players reached double-figures for the Golden Eagles, led by junior John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) with 15.

Brockport entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed and squared off against the No. 4 seed Lakers in the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six years. Brockport played a solid first half, led by the strong shooting of Jordan Major (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) and Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons). Oswego slowly built a lead throughout the second half, grabbing the final lead change of the game with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game. Brockport brought the game within four with under 10 to play, but the Lakers' defense clamped down and closed out the game to advance to the semifinals.

Ivy scored 13 second half points to pace the Golden Eagles, extending his consecutive games of double-figures streak to 28. Major, who had scored just 13 points in his two previous games combined against Oswego, finished with 14 points on 5-10 shooting. The senior also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Gallagher and Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) each chipped in with 12 points.

Major started off the game strong, scoring Brockport's first six points of the game. Brockport's largest lead of the half was four, while Oswego's was five. The first half saw six ties and five lead changes. Gallagher provided an immediate impact off the bench in the first half, scoring six points down low. Brockport trailed 34-31 with under five seconds to play in the half until Caruthers found Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) on the wing for a three-point shot just before the buzzer to tie the game.

Caruthers opened up the second half with a three for the Golden Eagles. After Oswego regained the lead, Major connected from beyond the arc to tie the game up at 42 with under 17 minutes to play, but from there Oswego slowly pulled away. Gallagher scored four straight points with under 10 to play to bring the game within four, but the Golden Eagles went scoreless for the next 4:17 as Oswego built a double-digit lead to carry out the win. Oswego advances to take on Cortland, the top overall seed, in the semifinals on Friday.

Brockport committed just five turnovers on the night, a season low. Oswego caught fire in the second half, hitting 63.6 percent of its shots as the Lakers outscored Brockport 44-32 in the final 20 minutes.

Oswego ousted the Golden Eagles from the playoffs for the second straight year. The Lakers defeated Brockport in the semifinal round last year by a score of 64-57.
