Madison Buckley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored her third goal of the season, but The College at Brockport field hockey team fell to Oneonta 2-1 on Friday afternoon in the first SUNYAC game of the season.
The Red Dragons took control from the first whistle, getting three shots and a penalty corner off in the first two minutes. Freshman Lindsay Farrell (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) was able to come up with some big saves.
Oneonta got on the board first with a goal at 17:45.
Gina Stephan (Clarence, NY/Clarence) got off the only shot of the half for the Golden Eagles, but it was blocked.
The Golden Eagles took over control to start the second half. Brockport took three penalty corners and was able to convert on their final opportunity. Buckley used her reverse stick and scored off of a pass from Molly Hurd at 44:23 to tie things up.
Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles were unable to get off another shot for the remainder of the game.
Oneonta took the lead with less than 10 minutes to play and held on for the victory.
Brockport was awarded two penalty corners with time running out, but could not convert.
The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday at 1:00 pm against New Paltz for another SUNYAC matchup at 1:00 pm.
