Schuler and King Lead Brockport in Opener

Golden Eagles won every event in season-opening win at Ithaca

Stephanie Schuler won the uneven bars at the season-opening meet at Ithaca

Junior Stephanie Schuler (Purcellville, VA/Hickory) took first in the uneven bars and was second on the balance beam while senior Lexi King (Glendale, AZ/Mountain Ridge) was first in the floor exercise and second in the vault leading The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to an impressive 185.325-163.475 victory over Ithaca College Saturday in Ben Light Gym in Ithaca.

Schuler scored a 9.55 on the bars leading Brockport (1-0) to the top three finishes on the event as fellow senior Casey Addis (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was second with a 9.325 and freshman Maddie O'Braitis (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) was third with a 9.125. The Golden Eagles had five of the top six scores on the bars with senior Heidi Beckerich (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) scoring an 8.925 and freshman Jennifer Sklenar (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) rounding out the Brockport scores with an 8.675.

Schuler was second on the balance beam with a 9.40 as Sklenar won the event with a 9.525. Three other Golden Eagles also scored over 9.0 on the event as Lily Jagodzinski (Tonawanda, NY/Williamsville North) was third, Samantha Spaid (Green, OH/Green) was fourth and freshman Kendal Hamer (Ocala, FL/Trinity Catholic) was sixth with scores of 9.35, 9.275 and 9.05 respectively.

King took top honors in the floor exercise with a 9.5 score as Brockport captured the top four spots in the final standings. Jagodzinski was second with a 9.325 followed by Sklenar with a 9.125 and freshman Jill Daddario (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) with a 9.10.

King was second to junior Olivia Sylvestro (Palm City, FL/Martin County) on the vault for Brockport. Sylvestro scored a 9.6 and King earned a 9.45 as the Golden Eagles had the top five scores of the day on the event. Haylee Garrick (Myrtle Beach, SC/Carolina Forest) was third with a 9.425, freshman Casey Sullivan (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Fall-Lima) was fourth with a 9.4 and senior Gabrielle Petitto (Selden, NY/Newfield) was fifth at 9.35.
