Box Score Junior Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) swung a hammering right handed strike often for The College at Brockport Volleyball team, leading the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 sweep over Plattsburgh Saturday evening. Barber led Brockport with 13 kills on the first night of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) pool play in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Brockport (13-6, 2-2 SUNYAC) used a strong attacking game to win three consecutive sets by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-12.
In the first set, Brockport built a 9-3 lead on the serving of sophomore Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook) who finished with four service aces on the match. Sophomore Kelsey Baker (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had the magic touch in the first set adding four kills. Baker, Barber and Riebe combined to score 12 of Brockport's points on kills.
The second set attacking was again led by Riebe with four more kills. Baker chipped in two kills of her own, including the final set point.
The Golden Eagles dominated the third set, taking a 17-6 lead behind the serving of Baker. She had two of her three service aces in the final set of the match.
On the night, Baker led the team with a 0.545 hitting percentage after committing only one error compared to her seven kills. The strong offense was set up by the hustling play of senior Jessica Dobson-Tufo (Watertown, NY/Carthage) and freshman Rachel Fiser (Visalia, CA/Golden West). Dobson-Tufo led the team with 16 assists while Fiser set up teammates 13 times.
Leading the defensive efforts of the Golden Eagles was senior Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison). Snyder had a strong game, contributing 21 digs.
Brockport continues SUNYAC pool play tomorrow morning as they face New Paltz at 10 am which will be followed by another Golden Eagles match versus Buffalo State at 12:30 pm.
