Freshman Brianna Richardson (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) and senior Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) both came through in clutch moments helping The College at Brockport Volleyball team to a closely contested victory over Buffalo State in the Golden Eagles final game of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) pool play Saturday. Brockport finished 1-1 on the day, defeating Buffalo State 3-2 and losing to New Paltz 3-0.

Brockport (14-7, 3-3 SUNYAC) won the first set 25-22 before the Bengals evened the match with a 25-23 second set win.  The Golden Eagles again took the lead with a 25-21 third set victory before Buffalo again evened the match with a 25-22 win. Brockport and Buffalo fought hard in the final set with both teams trading leads and on the verge of victory until the Golden Eagles were able to pull out the 19-17 win.

The Golden Eagles dropped three straight sets to conference leading New Paltz by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-18.

Brockport found itself in an early hole against Buffalo State, trailing 10-4, before going on a run to give itself a 20-15 lead. The Bengals fought back and evened the score at 22-22. After a timeout was called by Brockport the Golden Eagles then rallied for two straight points and the set advantage. A timeout was called by the Bengals but Snyder served up an ace to close the first set.

With the second set tied at 18-18, the Golden Eagles and Bengals traded single points back and forth with each other until the Bengals scored the final two points for the win.

The Golden Eagles again found themselves trailing the Bengals before putting together a third set rally for the victory. Behind the serving of sophomore Kelsey Baker (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) the Golden Eagles went on a seven point swing to take the lead which it never gave back, winning 25-21.

In the fourth set, Brockport was unable to overcome an early deficit despite the efforts of sophomore Amanda Riebe (Pleasant Valley, NY/Millbrook) and junior Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls). The two accounted for nine of Brockport's 22 points on kills.

Brockport held an early lead in the winner takes all  fifth set, before Buffalo rallied to even the score at 14-14. Brockport took the advantage on a kill from junior Hannah Sawicki (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) before Buffalo leaped ahead with two points of its own. Riebe kept the Golden Eagles alive with a kill evening the score at 16-16. The Bengals once again were on the brink of winning the match after a double touch violation was called on Brockport. With the match on the line, Snyder came through with exceptional defensive effort and was able to dig several Bengals kill attempts.

Once again to even the score, Riebe came through with a clutch kill following a phenomenal dig by Snyder. With freshman Aimee Spilman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) serving, Richardson was able to put the ball where no Bengal could reach it twice in a row to give the Golden Eagles the 19-17 set win and the 3-2 match victory.

On the day, the Golden Eagles were led by Barber with 27 kills, senior Jessica Dobson-Tufo (Watertown, NY/Carthage) with 38 assists, Riebe with five service aces and Snyder with 60 digs.

Brockport volleyball's next home game is scheduled for Wednesday October 15 at 7 pm against St. John Fisher College. Stay up to date on all your Golden Eagle scores and awards by following Ellsworth on twitter @EllsworthEagle.
