Box Score Sophomore Katherine Weyant (Clarence, NY/Clarence) scored a second half goal for the College at Brockport Field Hockey team as the Golden Eagles avoided the shutout in a 7-1 loss to Ithaca in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.
As the final weekend regular-season home game, seniors Stefanie Scheib (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia), Alyssa Mills (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Kayla Kulzer (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) were honored following the game as part of the senior day celebration.
Ithaca (6-8) opened the scoring 2:32 into the contest on a penalty corner play and added three additional goals off penalty corners in the game. Two goals in the span of 1:43 near the end of the first half gave the Bombers a 4-0 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
In the second half, Ithaca added a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the period to extend the lead and scored its seventh goal 7:02 into the half for the 7-0 lead.
With less than 16 minutes left in the game, Weyant forced a turnover near midfield and dribbled up the sideline toward the arc at the Ithaca end of the field. After looking for an open teammate to pass to, Weyant continued to dribble past a Bomber defender and in on the cage as she turned and fired a low shot into the corner of the goal to break up the shutout bid.
After trailing in shots 13-1 at the half, Brockport (4-13) rallied and fired 10 shots in the final 35 minutes.
