Box Score 2 Junior Kayla Barber (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and freshman Emily Flohr (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) helped lead The College at Brockport Volleyball team to its first State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament berth since 2009 with two wins to close out SUNYAC Pool Play Saturday afternoon in Plattsburgh.
Brockport (19-11, 5-4 SUNYAC) earned the fourth ranking with match wins against Oneonta and Potsdam. The Golden Eagles defeated Oneonta in three straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-22 before defeating Potsdam in four sets. Brockport won two sets 27-25 and 25-22 before dropping the third 25-18 against the Bears. The Golden Eagles closed out the match and a SUNYAC playoff berth with the 25-19 fourth set win.
Barber had double digit kills in both matches finishing with 26 kills compared to only four errors and a 0.349 hitting percentage. Flohr led the team with 14 kills against Oneonta and finished with 21 on the day while also adding 14 digs.
Leading the Golden Eagles in digs was freshman Aimee Spilman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) who accumulated 30 digs over the course of the two matches. Freshman Noelle Poloncarz (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) set up Brockport's offense, garnering 65 assists.
Brockport is slotted in the fourth playoff spot and will face fifth-seeded Oswego November 7 at 6 pm in New Paltz. The winner faces tournament host and SUNYAC Tournament No.1 seed New Paltz Nov. 8 at 6 pm. The SUNYAC Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Nov. 9 at noon.
