Box Score

Senior Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) gave The College at Brockport Field Hockey team a 1-0 lead midway through the first half but Houghton scored late in the second half and then won the game in overtime Wednesday night in the 2014 season finale for the Golden Eagles on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Eschen was one of three Brockport (4-14) players in front of the Houghton (4-13) goal and pounded away at the loose ball with a crowd of players in front of the goal. It was Eschen's shot that made it through the pile of players and into the back of the cage for the 1-0 Brockport lead.

The one-goal lead held up until five minutes remaining in the second half. Houghton lined up for its 15th penalty corner of the game and scored on a shot from the top of the arc knotting the score at 1-1 and eventually forcing the overtime period.

In OT, both teams had scoring chances but it was the Highlanders who scored on a short centering pass and a quick shot from 15 feet out for the game winner with 33 seconds remaining in the first 15-minute extra period.

Sophomore Lindsay Farrell (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) tied her season high with 17 saves and finished the season with 176 stops which is the fourth most in school history. Only Brittany Phillips who stopped 205 shots in 2001 and 203 shots in 1999 and Shannon Jennison who made 195 saves in 1993 are ahead of Farrell in the record book for saves in a single season.

Eschen's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season and pushed her career goal total to 17 and her career point total to 44. The 17 goals is 11th on the all-time list and the 44 points put her in 10th place in the Brockport record book.
