Senior John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) scored 23 of his 26 points in the second half to help The College at Brockport men's basketball team defeat Geneseo 66-62 in an important State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on the road on Tuesday night.

Ivy recorded seven of Brockport's final seven points on a key run by the Golden Eagles and Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) added a huge block in the final seconds to help seal the win.

Brockport (18-2, 12-2 SUNYAC) and Geneseo (16-4, 10-3 SUNYAC) kept things close the entire game. Neither team led by more than five points and there were 14 total ties.

Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) started things off for the Golden Eagles with a quick layup off of the jump ball. A three-point play from Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) gave Brockport a five point lead, the largest of the game, at 14:34.

The Knights recorded their first lead of the game with a layup at 12:14, going up 18-16. Coyle answered with a layup on the other end of the court to tie things up.

With under five minutes to play in the half, Geneseo pushed out to a four point lead. Brockport would come back to tie things up, but a three-point play from the Knights at 1:20 put them ahead 36-34 heading into halftime.

Key three point shooting from Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) helped the Golden Eagles stay close to a hot shooting Geneseo team in the first half. Lee hit four-of-five from long range and the Golden Eagles finished shooting 50% as a team from behind the three point line.

Ivy hit a layup to tie things up at the start of the second half. Both teams traded the lead back and forth until the mid-way point, when Brockport secured a one point lead off of free throws from Ivy at 9:05 and never let the Knights get it back.

A three pointer from Ivy with 2:38 left pushed Brockport's lead out to five, but Geneseo answered back with a long range three of their own. A layup from Ivy and a dunk from Coyle proved to be important baskets for the Golden Eagles in the final two minutes of play.

Trailing by four with 1:12 to play, the Knights drained another long range three pointer to come within a point of the Golden Eagles. Ivy was fouled seconds later and headed to the free throw line where he calmly sank two shots.

In the last minute, Geneseo tried for another long range three, this time from 12 feet behind the arc, but it would fall short. The Knights had one final shot at trying to tie things up, but Coyle came up with a dominating block to shut down any chance Geneseo had left.

Caruthers was fouled in the final seconds of the game and hit a free throw to give Brockport a final four point lead.

Despite a struggling during the second half shooting wise, the Golden Eagles were able to get the job done. Brockport finished the night shooting 36.4% (20-55) from the floor, 32% (8-25) from long range and 69.2% (18-2) from the free throw line.

Ivy led scoring with 26 points, going 7-13 from the floor, 3-4 from three point range and 9-11 at the free throw line. Lee added 12 points, while Coyle chipped in nine and pulled down seven rebounds. Caruthers finished with a team-high five assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday night at Buffalo State for a 8 pm SUNYAC matchup.
