Box Score

Sophomore Lindsay Farrell (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) made 11 saves including seven in the first half for The College at Brockport Field Hockey team but Nazareth scored a goal in each half to post a 2-0 victory over the Golden Eagles in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon in Brockport.

Six minutes into the contest, Nazareth (1-0) opened the scoring with a shot from just inside the arc that was saved by Farrell but knocked around in front of the cage before senior Sibongile Chisi found the back of the goal with a wide open shot after the ball squirted loose after a second Farrell save.

In the second half, Brockport applied more pressure in the offensive end of the field dominating the shots total for the half 14-8. With 27 minutes to play, freshman Amy Masciale (Selden, NY/Newfield) had a couple chances to score but Nazareth goalie Shannon Winney made a sliding save coming out of the cage and then stopped the rebounded shot attempt reaching back with her stick to knock the ball away.

Less than two minutes later as Brockport continued to pressure the goal, the Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke when a Nazareth player stopped a certain goal with her foot. Sophomore Nikole Morgan (Mamaroneck, NY/Rye Neck) lined up the shot but it was saved by Winney to preserve the 1-0 Nazareth lead.

With just over 10 minutes left in the game, Nazareth made it a 2-0 lead as Gabrielle DiSanto knocked a ball out of midair and past Farrell.

Farrell finished with 11 saves while senior Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) led Brockport with five shots.
