Box Score

Sophomore Nickole Morgan (Mamaroneck, NY/Rye Neck) scored on the 15th penalty shot attempt for The College at Brockport Field Hockey team and fellow sophomore Lindsay Farrell (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) made an amazing 14 saves during penalty shots as the Golden Eagles posted a thrilling 2-1 victory over Oswego in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener Friday afternoon in Oswego.

Morgan recorded an assist in the first half as Alyssa Mills (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) gave Brockport (2-5 Overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) a lead 24 minutes into the contest. Morgan fired a pass from the top of the arc to Mills on the left post and Mills knocked in a shot for the early 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, Oswego (2-4, 0-1) scored with a hard low shot from the middle of the arc to knot the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied for the rest of the first half and the entire second half and the teams headed to overtime.

In overtime, neither team was able to score during the two 15-minutes periods leaving the game to be decided by penalty shots. In the first round of five shots for each team, neither was able to score and the same was true for the second round as the teams reversed the shooting order.

In the third round of five penalty shots per team, Oswego took a lead as Courtney Collins scored on the second attempt to put the Lakers up 1-0. Freshman Margo Tremaine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) answered with a goal for Brockport on the very next attempt tying the score at 1-1. Tremaine reversed the ball and flipped it over the goalie and into the back of the cage for the tying goal.

In the final shot of the third round, Morgan moved in close to the Oswego goalie before reversing the ball between the goalie's legs and knocking it into the back of the cage for the 2-1 Brockport lead.

Oswego had the final shot in the round of five penalty shots and Farrell made another save this time coming out of the cage in an attacking position before knocking the ball away from the shooter and out of the arc to clinch the Brockport victory.

The victory is also Head Coach Andrea Zurlo's 100th career win at Brockport.

Farrell finished with nine official saves during regulation and overtime but also stopped 14 shots during the penalty shots.
