Field Hockey falls to Fisher, 3-1

Two second half goals cost Brockport in a close game

Senior Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) scored midway through the first half to tie the game for The College at Brockport Field Hockey team but St. John Fisher rebounded to score twice in the second half to post a 3-1 victory Wednesday afternoon on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport.

St. John Fisher (2-1) scored first with a short pass and a quick shot from five yards out 6:20 into the game.

Just over six minutes later, Eschen scored the first goal of the season for the Golden Eagles (0-2) with an assist from freshman Amy Masciale (Selden, NY/Newfield) with a scramble of action directly in front of the Cardinal goal.

The score remained tied 1-1 through the first half as the teams played a close game with plenty of back and forth action. The Cardinals held a slim 10-8 shots advantage in the first 35 minutes.

In the second half, St. John Fisher controlled the play winning the shots battle 13-2 and scoring twice to take the lead.

Fisher's first goal of the second half came 12 minutes into the period with a crossing pass from just inside the arc to the opposite side of the cage. The second goal of the half to give St. John Fisher a two-goal advantage came with just over 10 minutes left in the period off a rebounded shot as Lindsay Farrell (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had made the initial save.

Farrell finished with nine saves for Brockport.
