Freshman Brittany Vasile (Erie, PA/Iroquois) and seniors Stephanie Schuler (Purcellville, VA/Hickory) and Amanda Rota (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) each won individual events leading The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to a season-opening 185.000-184.625 victory over Cortland Tuesday night in Cortland.
Vasile scored a 9.45 to win the vault while Schuler added a 9.5 first-place score on the bars and Rota scored a meet-best 9.625 on the beam.
Schuler added a 9.4 on the vault and Amanda Carney (Walpole, MA/Walpole) had a 9.375. Schuler won the bars while Natalie Manga (Fresh Meadows, NY/Benjamin N. Cardozo) and Maddie O'Braitis (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) each scored 9.35 for the Golden Eagles.
Schuler added a 9.475 to finish third on the balance beam and sophomore Jen Sklenar (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) was next with a 9.325.
Lily Jagodzinski (Tonawanda, NY/Williamsville North) was the top Golden Eagle in floor exercise with a second place finish with her 9.625 routine while Vasile was third at 9.575. Jill Daddario (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) was next for the Golden Eagles in sixth place with a 9.30.
Brockport had at least a 46 team score on each event with a high of 46.575 on the floor and a 46.425 on the vault.
Brockport has its home opener Saturday with a match against Springfield at 1 pm.
