Box Score Sophomore Levi Pace (Medina, NY/Medina) scored 13 points including nine in the second half for The College at Brockprot Men's Basketball team as the Golden Eagles limited Cortland to just 48 points in a 57-48 victory Tuesday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium in Brockport.
Brockport (13-10 Overall, 10-6 SUNYAC) won its fourth consecutive game and moved into a tie for third place in the SUNYAC standings with just two games remaining in the regular season schedule. The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season this weekend with road games at Plattsburgh and Potsdam Friday and Saturday.
The Golden Eagles held a steady lead for the second half until Cortland (16-8, 9-8) battled back cutting the lead to five points at with less than five minutes remaining. Patrick Modzelewski (Brooklyn, NY/Msgr. McClancy) stole a pass and was fouled. He hit one of two free throws and Pace intercepted another Cortland pass on the next possession and hit a jumper at the other end to extend the Brockport lead to eight points at 52-44 with 3:11 remaining.
Cortland trimmed the lead back to six points with a minute left but Clifton Lyerly (Inwood, NY/Lawrence) and Mike Gallagher (Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbins) hit free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
In the first half, Brockport went on a 10-2 run over a span of five minutes to take a 20-10 lead. Sophomore Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) and Modzelewski each contributed to the run as they both drained 3-pointers in the run.
Pace led the balanced Golden Eagles attack with 13 points, five rebounds, three blocks and five steals. Modzelewski added 12 points and six rebounds while White chipped in 11 points.
