Senior Lexi King (Glendale, AZ/Mountain Ridge) had a 9.775 with her floor exercise routine and finished tied for seventh overall in the event leading The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to an impressive 190.700 team score finish at the Penn State quad meet Saturday afternoon in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Brockport (9-7) finished fourth in the team standings against the other three NCAA Division I teams in the field. Penn State won the meet with a 196.650, Iowa State was second at 195.375 and the University of Pennsylvania was third with a 191.925.
Brockport started the meet on the balance beam and had its highest event team score of the day finishing with a 48.400. Amanda Rota (Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) and Stephanie Schuler (Purcellville, VA/Hickory) led the way each scoring 9.725 while Lily Jagodzinski (Tonawanda, NY/Williamsville North) added a 9.7. Sophomores Jen Sklenar (Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) and Faith Burns (Little River, SC/Academy for Arts, Science and Technology) each scored 9.625.
The Golden Eagles moved to floor and King set the bar high from the start as the final competitor for Brockport on the event and posted a 9.775 leading the team to an impressive 48.275 team score in the first rotation. Jagodzinski was next in scoring for the Golden Eagles with a 9.75 while freshman Brittany Vasile (Erie, PA/Iroquois) had a 9.625 and Sklenar added a 9.6. Fellow sophomore Jill Daddario (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) rounded out the Brockport scoring with a 9.525.
Brockport nearly scored another 48 team score on the vault finishing with a 47.400. Senior Haylee Garrick (Myrtle Beach, SC/Carolina Forest) led the Golden Eagles with a 9.625 followed by freshman Bridgette Schaal (Nokesville, VA/Paul VI Catholic) with a 9.55 and King with a 9.525. Vasile had a 9.475 and Schuler rounded out the team scoring with a 9.225.
The Golden Eagles stumbled a bit on the uneven bars in the final rotation with a pair of scores under a 9.0 but did have impressive performances by Schuler and sophomores Maddie O'Braitis (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) and Caitlin Elsadek (Nokomis, FL/Venice) with scores of 9.625, 9.575 and 9.55 respectively.
Brockport returns home late Saturday night and will host Cortland, Ithaca and Rhode Island College Sunday for the final regular-season meet of the year in the Cancer Awareness Meet – Stick It to Cancer at 1 pm.
