Baseball Pounds Springfield with 18-0 Win

Five Golden Eagles score two runs each to pace Golden Eagles offense

Zack Lander threw five scoreless innings in the 18-0 win over Springfield
Box Score

Senior Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) was 2-for-2 with four runs batted in and fellow senior Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) threw five shutout innings leading The College at Brockport Baseball team to a convincing 18-0 win over Springfield Monday at the Chain of Lakes Sports Complex in Winter Haven, Florida.

Brockport (5-3) opened the scoring with a huge 9-run inning in the second and then added three more in the third, one in the fourth and capped the scoring with five more runs in the fifth. The game was halted after seven innings due to time constraints and the large score differential.

After a scoreless first inning, Brockport sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning with six hits, five walks, three wild pitches and scored nine times. John Craig (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had two hits in the inning for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport tacked on three more runs in the third inning scoring on a wild pitch, a sacrifice fly and a fielding error to extend the lead to 12-0.

Springfield moved a runner into scoring position in the top of the fourth with one out but then had a bad at-bat as the next batter lifted a fly to center and the runner had taken off for home as if there were two outs and was easily doubled up at second to end the inning.

Kenney came on as a pinch hitter in the fourth and delivered a run-scoring single as Dan D'Eletto (Walworth, NY/Wayne) scored after ripping a double down the left field line.

In the fifth inning, Brockport put the game completely out of reach adding five more runs to the scoreboard. Lou Mastellone (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) and D'Eletto each had RBI singles and with bases loaded, Kenney doubled to left centerfield to score three runners and make it an 18-0 lead for Brockport.

Lander started and threw five shutout innings before Nick Pontari (Troy, NY/Troy) and Nick Jerolimov (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) came on for the final six outs to end the game.
