ITHACA, N.Y. – Led by three first place finishes, The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team captured their sixth East Region Championships since 2007 on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles led the pack, with a team score of 191.875. Ursinus College took second with a 188.750, while SUNY Cortland grabbed the last bid to the NCGA National Championship with a 188.425. Springfield College placed fourth with a 187.525, while hosts Ithaca College finished in fifth with a team mark of 186.475. Rhodes Island College rounded out the top six, with a score of 181.075.

John Feeney was also named the East Region Coach of the Year at the meet. This is his fifth Coach of the Year title, as he was named the same in 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2004.
The Green and Gold had a very strong day on all of the events. In the vault, the Golden Eagles took the top three spots, with
Stephanie Mager taking first with a score of 9.700.
Candis Kowalik placed second with a vault of 9.650 while
Jen Sklenar finished third with a 9.600. Britany Vasile also placed in the top 10, with a score of 9.500, which earned a ninth place finish. As a team, the Golden Eagles stood above the rest, with a team score of 47.875 on the event.
While Brockport didn't capture the highest team score on the uneven bars, the Green and Gold still had a strong showing in the event.
Maddie O'Braitis took third with a score of 9.525.
Allison Hester placed fifth, with a score of 9.500 while
Caitlin Elsadek finished in seventh with a score of 9.450.
The strongest two events were yet to come for the Golden Eagles, as Kowalik and
Lily Jagodzinski finished in a tie for first on the balance beam with scores of 9.775.
Kendra Bushart and
Kendal Hamer went seventh and eighth for Brockport, with 9.675 and 9.650 respectively. The Golden Eagles turned in the highest score on this event as well, with a 48.100.
The Golden Eagles shined brightest on the floor, with all six competing athletes finishing in the top 11. Brockport went one-two-three on the floor, with Jagodzinski capturing her second title of the day, with a score of 9.850, which places her in a tie for fourth in the Brockport record books for highest floor score. Kowalik finished in second with a score of 9.825 while Vasile took third with a score of 9.800.
Meghan Cash placed fifth with a mark of 9.750, while Sklenar's 9.700 put her in eighth.
Bridgette Schaal rounded out the Brockport six, as her 9.575 placed her in 11th.
Brockport punched their ticket to the 2016 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association National Championship with the first place finish. The Golden Eagles will also have several individual qualifiers that will compete as individuals in the event. The NCGA Championships will take place on March 18-19 at The College at Brockport.
