Saturday, September 10, 2016 – 6 p.m.
Pioneer Stadium – Alfred, N.Y.
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport football team hits the road for the first time this season as they travel to Alfred State College on Saturday with kick off set for 6 pm.
The Golden Eagles will be looking to bounce back this week after falling to Hobart College in their season opener. The back-and-forth game was tied five times, with no team ever leading by more than a touchdown.
Running back
Dan Andrews had yet another impressive performance, rushing for 186-yards en route to shattering an almost 20 year old all-time rushing record at Brockport. Adam Rodger reached 3,876-yards from 1995-98, but Andrews reached 3,918-yards with a 42-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Andrews was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance and is now the national leader in rushing yards among all active DIII players.
Heading into this week, Brockport will face Alfred State for just the third time in program history. The Pioneers won the first meeting in 2013 by a score of 34-28, but Brockport posted a convincing 59-7 win last year during homecoming weekend.
In last year's victory, Andrews rushed for three touchdowns while
Kevin Carr,
Ray Johnson,
Jerry Thompson and
Nate Wilkinson each tabbed one. Thompson led receivers with four receptions for 74-yards including a 42-yard catch.
The defensive unit stepped up on several occasions, holding Alfred State to just 189-yards of offense.
Alex Egglinger led the defense with eight tackles, including two for loss, in addition to one sack.
Nathaniel Keith III posted six sacks while
Jay Johnson and
Carter Jackson tabbed five each.
Following this week's meeting with Alfred, Brockport will head to Hartwick College for their first Empire 8 match up of the season. The Golden Eagles will return home on Sept. 24 to face St. John Fisher College in the 12th annual Courage Bowl to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times.
