Brockport, NY - Austyn Gollnitz of the SUNY Brockport football team was just named the Empire 8 Football Defensive Player of the Week. He put together an impactful performance for the Golden Eagles in their win over Hartwick on the road in Week 4.

Gollnitz made arguably the biggest play of the game for Brockport to give the team the lead at halftime. With the game a stalemate at 0-0 through most of the first half, Gollnitz changed the entire outlook of the game to end the half. Hartwick running back Akil Williams had the ball punched out by Austyn Gollnitz, and the fumble was recovered by Brockport for a defensive touchdown.

The second-year linebacker finished with a total of seven tackles in the game, including three tackles for loss. The forced fumble for a touchdown was the cherry on top of a gritty defensive outing for Austyn. He has now forced three turnovers in the past two games for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport returns home in Week 5 to host St. John Fisher for the annual Courage Bowl. Kickoff is set for 6pm on Saturday, October 3rd at Bob Boozer Field.
