POTSDAM, N.Y. – The men's and women's cross country teams competed at the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday morning, finishing seventh and fourth overall, respectively. The Geneseo Knights took home the SUNYAC Team Championship on both the men's and women's sides.
Krista Kicsak paced the Brockport women on the afternoon, finishing the race in 31st position with a time of 24:42.6.
Lauren Bates was close behind her, crossing the line in 25:17.2 which put her in 40th overall. Katherine Adams,
Alyssa Soethout, and
Makenna Bleier rounded out the top five runners for the Golden Eagle women, all finishing in the top 50.
On the men's side,
Andrew Davis finished in 15th position, finishing less than a minute off the top runner with a time of 27:41.4.
Sean Kuehn (20th) and
Dylan Brickner (23rd) also finished in the top 25, crossing the line in 28:06.8 and 28:13.3, respectively.
Stefen Davies and
Joseph Northup were the final two Brockport runners to finish in the top five, each finishing in the top 40 overall.
Head Coach
Danielle Novara was proud of her teams efforts, and believes that if not for some unfortunate circumstances they could have finished even better.
"The men ran super gritty," noted Novara. "The course was ridiculously tough. Our fourth man fell and injured his ankle and dropped out, which hurt us a bit. Our women ran tough again but our second runner fell and we suffered for that."
The Golden Eagles will get to continue their season in two weeks, as the top seven runners from both the men's and women's side will run in the NCAA Regionals, which are hosted by Houghton College on November 11th.
