In 2000, Brockport finished its eight game regular season with a perfect record, marking the last and only other time they've gotten off to an 8-0 start. A win this week would give the team its first 9-0 start ever, and would propel them into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.

The Golden Eagles have been blazing hot of late, outscoring their last three opponents by a combined score of 126-7, including two straight shutouts of Empire 8 opponents. Over the course of the season, they're outscoring opponents by nearly 28 points-per-game, as they currently boast the eighth best offense in terms of total yardage, and 12th total defense in the country. Much of that success has been because of their ability to get after the quarterback, as they currently lead Division III in team sacks with 35 (4.5 per-game).

Consistency across the field has been the name of the game for Brockport in 2017, as even critics would be hard pressed to find a position of weakness. The team has had players named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week in five of the eight weeks, including a running back, offensive line, linebacker (twice), and defensive back.

They rank in the top ten nationally in four offensive categories (3rd down conversion percentage, sacks allowed, total offense, completion percentage), and four defensive categories (team sacks, rushing defense, scoring defense, interceptions). Not surprisingly, they also rank high in the one category that encompasses both sides of the ball, time of possession, which they currently rank third in (34:54 per-game).

Joe Germinerio has already moved into fourth place in the Brockport record book in season passing yards with two regular season games still remaining, having already thrown for 2,161 yards this season. DaQuan Hubbard has been his primary target, who, after 112 yards and two more touchdowns last weekend, entered the top ten for receiving yards in a season in program history.

Historically, Alfred has held an edge in the overall series, having won 31 of the 42 previous matchups. The Golden Eagles nearly ended the Saxon's undefeated season a season ago, holding a fourth quarter lead before falling in a 30-28 battle. This game has significant implications for both teams, as Alfred could control their own fate in the Empire 8 with a win.

The Green and Gold will play their final regular season game of the season on the road next weekend at St. Lawrence, before awaiting their post-season fate the following week.
