SPRINGFIELD, Ma. – The College at Brockport gymnastics team competed in the Springfield College Quad Meet on Saturday, facing off against the hosts as well as Brown University and Southern Connecticut State University.
The Golden Eagles took second in the meet with a team score of 190.975. They just narrowly missed their NCAA Division II counterparts, Southern Connecticut, who turned in a team score of 191.000. The Green and Gold squad beat out NCAA Division I Brown, who scored a 190.600 and the host Springfield, who notched a 188.300.
Brockport shined bright throughout the meet, with three Golden Eagles grabbing first in three different events.
Stephanie Mager, who was the lone Golden Eagle to compete as an all-around athlete (37.375, third), took first on the vault with a score of 9.600.
Jamie Sklenar and
Bridgette Schaal placed in a tie for seventh on the event with a pair of 9.475's, while the Brockport team worked for a score of 47.300.
The Green and Gold turned in their second highest score of the meet on their first event of the day, the beam (48.000), where
Taylor Keough captured first with a 9.750.
Shelby Schumaker (9.700) took third, and
Kimberly Musall (9.650) snagged fifth. Sklenar finished in the top 10, taking ninth with a score of 9.575.
The Golden Eagles posted a season-high score of 48.525 on the floor, again taking the first-place individual spot, with
Brittany Vasile snagging the top slot with a score of 9.850. Mager wasn't far off, in second place with a 9.775. Schumaker finished in the top ten for the Green and Gold, posting a 9.700.
Miranda Shaine was the highest finisher for Brockport on the bars, where the senior took eighth with a score of 9.575. The Golden Eagle unit worked for a team score of 47.150 on the event.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Feb. 4 when they host Ithaca College at 1 p.m.
