BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team opened up their 2018 season on Tuesday, hosting SUNY Cortland, bypassing the Red Dragons, 184.450-183.800.
The Golden Eagles improve to 1-0 to start the season while the Red Dragons fall to 0-1 to kick off 2018.
As a team, the Green and Gold outscored their counterparts on two of the four events, with a 46.750 score on the vault and their highest score of the meet, a 48.450 on the floor. On the floor,
Candis Kowalik and
Brittany Vasile led the way with a pair of 9.825's.
Stephanie Mager and
Shelby Schumaker each turned in solid marks, a 9.700 and 9.675 respectively to place third and fourth overall.
On the vault, Mager continued to shine, with a 9.500 for second place overall.
Amy Eck started her Brockport career with a 9.400 on the apparatus, taking fourth in the event. Kowalik placed fifth with a 9.350, while
Jamie Sklenar and Schumaker each finished seventh with scores of 9.250.
The Golden Eagles pieced together a score of 45.250 on the beam, with
Kendra Bushart leading the way with a 9.275.
Kimberly Musall and
Olivia DeLuca took fourth and fifth overall, with scores of 9.150 and 9.125.
With a score of 44.00, the Golden Eagles had three of the top four scores on the uneven bars. Sweeping the second, third and fourth spots,
Bridgette Schaal led the way with a 9.450.
Miranda Shaine and Eck took third and fourth respectively, with scores of 9.375 and 9.350.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Jan. 14 when they travel to take on Rhode Island College.
