PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The College at Brockport gymnastics team turned in a strong score on Sunday, competing amongst NCAA Division I and II competition in the Brown University Bears Invite.
The Golden Eagles pieced together a team score of 190.975, while The University of Bridgeport took the meet with a 194.800. Hosts Brown notched a score of 193.150 while Southern Connecticut State University tabbed a 192.050.
Stephanie Mager helped the Green and Gold shine on the vault, taking first place in the event with a score of 9.775.
Candis Kowalik was the next Golden Eagle finisher, who's score of 9.675 earned her a seventh-place finish.
Bridgette Schaal wasn't far off the pace, vaulting to a score of 9.600 for 10th, while
Jamie Sklenar and
Shelby Schumaker each turned in a pair of 9.550's to place 16th. As a team, the Green and Gold posted a 48.150 on the event, their second highest score of the meet.
On the bars,
Miranda Shaine was Brockport's top finisher, with a routine of 9.725 placing her in eighth place overall.
Allison Hester and Schaal each earned a 9.600 to rest in a tie for 13th. Kowalik rounded out the top four, with a 9.325, while as a unit, Brockport scored a 47.300 on the bars.
The Golden Eagles faltered on the beam, turning in their lowest score of the meet, a 47.275. Kowalik led the scores with a 9.500, with Sklenar and
Kimberly Musall each earning a 9.475.
Taylor Keough added a 9.425 while Mager was just behind her, with a 9.400 on the event.
The Green and Gold used their best event, the floor, to their advantage, bouncing back to turn in their highest score of the meet, a 48.250.
Brittany Vasile led the Brockport charge, taking third with a score of 9.800. Kowalik wasn't far off pace, turning in a 9.750 for seventh place. Schumaker finished with a 9.600, while Schaal, Mager and Keough all notched a 9.550.
Kowalik was the lone Golden Eagle to compete as an all-around athlete, scoring a 38.250, just narrowly missing the first and second place all around gymnasts.
The Golden Eagles will use this final season regular meet to propel them into the post season, with the NCGA East Regional taking place on March 10 in Providence, R.I. at Rhode Island College. There, Brockport can punch its ticket to the NCGA National Championship, hosted by Springfield College on March 23-24.
