BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team is on the road this weekend for a double header against conference opponents New Paltz and Oneonta on Friday and Saturday.
Home Sweep: The Golden Eagles are on a hot streak on home court, recording four straight conference wins including three of which were sweeps. The team went to work last weekend against Fredonia and Buffalo State, recording 3-0 wins in both matchups and 71 total kills on the weekend. In both matches, the Golden Eagles recorded a collective effort on both sides of the ball while seeing strong offense from
Elena Grossman,
Meaghan Mastro,
Andrea Coyle,
Jordan Thompson and
Lindsey Luce. The team fired on all cylinders against the Bengals, closing out the day with a total .306 hitting percentage.
Team Leaders: Mastro's 12 kills last weekend continues to put her on top as the Golden Eagles most dominant offensive force, leading the team in kills with a total of 142. Her impressive performance thus far also secured her a second PrestoSports Athlete of the Week selection. Coyle isn't far behind her, recording a total of 133 kills thus far.
Kerri McHale and
Abbey Manning are dynamic setters, posting 290 and 223 assists respectively.
Shelby Budnick and
Ellen Paddock are essential to the Golden Eagles on serves and defense, both leading the team in service aces and digs.
What To Expect: New Paltz enters Friday's contest with an overall record of 8-8 and 3-2 in conference play. The Hawks are coming off of a tough 3-0 loss to Cortland last Saturday, where they were topped in kills and aces, 36-25 and 7-4. As a team, the Hawks are currently averaging 11 kills per set and 10.3 assists per set while notching 117 total service aces. Maddie Van Pelt is going to challenge the Golden Eagles defense, as she leads the team in total points with 184 while averaging 3.15 kills per set. Kerri Neville and Demi Herasme will provide strong offense for the Hawks as well, sitting just behind Van Pelt on the leaderboard.
Oneonta joins the weekend with a 15-5 record and a 3-2 record in conference play as well. The Red Dragons are coming off a five-set loss to Oswego on Saturday, where they posted more kills than the Lakers, 55-43. Even though the Red Dragons came up just short, their offense is executing effectively, averaging 12.2 kills per set, 11.3 assists per set and two aces per set. The Red Dragons individual leaders are junior Clara Culeton and senior Gillian Stieglitz. Clueton leads the team in points with 275, averaging 3.82 per sets and 202 total kills. Stieglitz leads the team in both total kills (212) and kills per set (2.9).
SUNYAC Standings: The Golden Eagles currently rank third overall in the conference, just ahead of both the Hawks and Red Dragons. They currently rank second overall in service aces per set (2.42) and fifth overall in kills per set (10.66), assists per set (10.03) and points per set (14.7).
With only two games left in the conference after this weekend, the Golden Eagles look to continue to carry the same momentum and energy into their matchup with New Paltz and Oneonta.
The Golden Eagles return home on Wednesday the 16th where they will face Wells College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
