Field Hockey Takes Quick Conference Break to Face Elmira College

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport field hockey team takes a quick break from conference play to take on Empire 8 opponent Elmira College Wednesday night.

OT Against Red Dragons: The Golden Eagles are coming off of a strong matchup with the former SUNYAC Champions runners up, losing a tough 2-1 overtime loss to the Red Dragons. When these two teams met in the 2018 season, the Red Dragons outscored the Green and Gold 6-0 while holding them to one total shot on goal. This time around the Golden Eagles settled into their own, notching only three less shots than the Red Dragons while forcing their defense to record eight saves. Meaghan Lurz provided the solo goal for the Golden Eagles with an assist by Emily Hall.

Record Book Season: Lurz is set to have a standout season for the Golden Eagles, having recorded seven goals to date. With those seven goals, the junior is on pace to join a select group of Brockport record book members in the single season goals category. More than halfway through the season, Lurz has also maintained a consistent lead on the SUNYAC as well, holding the top spot in goals and the third spot in total points.

Coming Through When it Counts: Lurz leads the SUNYAC with four game-winning goals this season. She has scored the game-winner in two of the last three games and she is currently riding the highs of a three game goal scoring streak.

SUNYAC Stat Watch: The Golden Eagles currently rank second in the SUNYAC with 32 total goals this season (3.6 per game). Brockport is one of just four teams in the SUNYAC with a goals against average of less than 2.0.  Cara Fox currently ranks second in the conference with a 1.28 GAA.

Lending a Helping Hand: Brockport leads the SUNYAC with 26 assists and the Golden Eagles have recorded an assist on all but six goals this season. Brockport has four players ranked in the top ten in the conference in total assists.  Ziemba leads the way with six helpers, while Lazore and Mellow are each tied for third with four. Weber is tied for eighth in the conference with three assists this season.

Trending Towards a Banner Year: Brockport's six wins so far this season are the most wins for the Golden Eagles in a single season since 2013. Brockport is eyeing its first double-digit win season since 2011 when the team finished with a 10-8 overall record.

What To Expect: The Soaring Eagles enter today's matchup 4-3 and 0-1 in conference play. As a team, they are averaging roughly 2 goals per game with a strong .680 shot on goal percentage. Junior midfielder Janie Kempf is the driving offensive force for the Soaring Eagles, posting five goals, two assists and 12 points thus far this season. Not far behind her is Kelsie Aloi who also has five goals on the season.

Hawks Up Next: The Golden Eagles close out the week returning to conference play as they welcome the 2018 SUNYAC Champions to Dr. Linda Arena and Class of '69 Field Hockey Venue for a 1 p.m. start time.
