Volleyball Headed To SUNYAC Championship Match Against Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – The College at Brockport volleyball team secured themselves a spot in the SUNYAC Championship match with a huge win over Cortland Friday afternoon, 3-1 (27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20).
 
KEY INFORMATION:
  • The Golden Eagles pick up their ninth straight win to improve to 18-10 on the season, putting them in the championship for the fourth time in the last five years.
  • Meaghan Mastro led the Golden Eagles with another double-double performance, notching 15 kills and 11 digs, hitting .282 on the match.
  • Andrea Coyle also had a standout day offensively, posting 13 kills for 14.5 points.

The Golden Eagles will go head to head with Geneseo in the championship match Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Brockport's energy was high from the start, setting the tone with two straight service aces in the first set by Ellen Paddock.
  • The Golden Eagles then commanded the scoring through the remainder of the set with help from Lindsey Luce, Mastro and Coyle.
  • Luce and Coyle then continued the momentum into the second set, leading the Golden Eagles on a five-point streak in the middle of the set to give them a seven-point lead, allowing them to maintain the lead through the remainder of the set.
  • The Green and Gold got off to an early lead in the third but with a little momentum from Red Dragons Maya Owens allowed them to close the gap. The two teams then battled back and forth for points, with the set ending in Cortland's favor.
  • In both the third and fourth set, the Golden Eagles put up a quick 3-0 lead.
  • Luce, Mastro and Elena Grossman provided the brick wall the Green and Gold needed on defense, recording 15 block assists between them. The three led the Golden Eagles to 10 total blocks on the night.
  • The Golden Eagles wrapped up a win over the Red Dragons with 52 total kills for a .172 hitting percentage.
  • Kerri McHale and Abbey Manning provided continuous strong opportunities for the Green and Gold middle and outside hitters, posting 22 and 19 assists a piece.
