ITHACA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport gymnastics team continued their hot streak at the Cornell Invite Saturday afternoon where they went head to head with the Big Red and the Ithaca College Bombers. Their strong finish puts the Green and Gold at 8-2 overall on the season.
The Golden Eagles strong 192.575 team score secured them a second-place finish, falling just short of the Big Red who finished with an even 194.00 and surpassing the Bombers who posted a 189.375.
The Green and Gold shined on the floor, picking up their highest finish of the day with a team score of 49.175. Senior
Candis Kowalik led the way with her routine, notching a second place 9.875 score, her strongest on the floor thus far this season.
Kimberly Musall and
Alexis Castellaneta followed suit, each with a final score of 9.850 which put them in a tie for third place.
Musall and Kowalik competed on the balance beam as well, bringing home a seventh and eighth place finishes respectively with a 9.650 and 9.625.
The vault was the second strongest event for the Golden Eagles overall, as their 48.050 final helped secure them second place.
Nicole Jackson and
Stephanie Mager picked up a three-way tie for fourth-place with scores of 9.725.
Freshman
Rachel Doll picked a third place finish for the Green and Gold with her strong performance on the uneven bars where she posted a score of 9.675.
Taylor Keough joined Doll in her efforts, grabbing a fifth-place finish on the bars with a 9.625.
The Golden Eagles bring their efforts back home on Saturday where they will celebrate the careers of their seniors in their solo matchup against SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m.
