OSHKOSH, Wis. – At the 2019 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships, The College at Brockport secured their first title since 2012 on Saturday, posting a team score of 191.050 to bring home the victory. Senior
Candis Kowalik also earned the title of NCGA All-Around National Champion, following her 38.400 performance.
HOW IT HAPPENED –
- Brockport won the meet with a score of 191.050, edging the University of Wisconsin Stout, who scored a 190.275.
- The Golden Eagles bested the defending National Champions, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, who scored a 190.150.
- Hosts, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh took fourth, with a score of 189.400.
- Ithaca College (187.975) and SUNY Cortland (185.500) rounded out the scoring, and the east representation, taking fifth and sixth respectively.
Vault
- The Green and Gold posted a team total of 48.275 in the event, the top score of the meet.
- Nicole Jackson and Stephanie Mager led the way for the Golden Eagles, with each vaulting for a score of 9.725, earning them fourth place overall on the event, and All-American status.
- Kowalik wasn't far behind, notching a vault of 9.700, good enough for sixth place overall, joining the All-American ranks.
- Jamie Sklenar added a 9.625, finishing in 10th overall.
Uneven Parallel Bars
- Brockport posted a solid team score on the bars, a 47.075, the second-best team performance of the meet.
- Taylor Keough led the way with a 9.525 to place 11th overall.
- Rachel Doll added a 9.475 for 13th, while Jackson (9.400) and Amy Eck (9.375) finished 19th and 22nd respectively.
Balance Beam
- The Golden Eagles posted a strong team score on the beam, a 47.075.
- Kowalik led the charge, with her routine earning a 9.625, good enough for ninth place overall.
- Alexis Castellaneta posted a 9.500, with Alexis Frankowski right behind her with a 9.450.
- Olivia DeLuca added a 9.375 on the event, with Kimberly Musall rounding out the Green and Gold scoring with a 9.125.
Floor
- Brockport posted its highest score of the championship on the floor, with a team score of 48.625 behind strong routines from all of the Golden Eagles.
- Kowalik and Castellaneta led the way, with each earning scores of 9.775, placing in a tie for third place and earning All-American honors.
- Mager and Keough weren't far off pace, as their pair of 9.700's placed them in a tie for ninth overall.
- The impressive performances continued, as Musall rounded out the scoring with a 9.675, grabbing 12th on the event.
KEY STATISTICS –
- The Golden Eagles secure their first title since the 2012 season, when the Green and Gold were co-champions with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
- Kowalik earned the title of All-Around Champion, with her score of 38.400 (9.700 vault, 9.300 bars, 9.625 beam, 9.775 floor).
- This is the first time a team from the East Region has won a National Championship hosted in the West Region.
