Golden Eagles to Face Rhode Island College on Sunday

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team started the year on a strong note, defeating Cortland in a five-point matchup on Tuesday. With their first win in the books, the Golden Eagles will head to Rhode Island College this Sunday for a dual meet with the Anchorwomen.
 
The Golden Eagles and the Anchorwomen met three times in the 2019 season, each of which resulted in a victory for the Green and Gold.
 
Rhode Island Quad Meet (W, 186.300):
The first time the two teams competed was exactly a year ago Sunday, where the Golden Eagles were one of four team competing in the Rhode Island College Quad meet, including Springfield College and Ursinus College. Not only were the Golden Eagles able to notch a first-place finish, the three wins allowed the team to secure a healthy 4-0 record to start the season.
 
Jensen Todd made her collegiate debut for the Green and Gold on the beam, finishing third overall with a score of 9.375. The team's strongest performance came on the uneven bars where they had six gymnasts rank in the top five. Courtney Kamberalis led the way with a second-place finish of 9.400, followed by Nikki Jackson who tied for third with a 9.350 and Amy Eck rounded out the scoring tied for fourth with a score of 9.150. Jamie Sklenar was the front runner for the Green and Gold on the vault, posting a 9.400. Skelnar was joined by teammate Lexi Castellaneta, who grabbed the fifth spot on the leader board with a score of 9.350. Kim Musall closed out the day with a third-place finish on the floor with a score of 9.475.
 
BSG Eagle Empire Meet (W, 189.050):
In their second outing of the year, the Golden Eagles welcomed the Anchorwomen to Brockport for a tri-meet with Ithaca College. Once again, the Green and Gold secured a first-place finish in their first home meet of the year, scoring a season-high 189.050 through five meets.
 
Jackson posted a meet high 9.700 on the vault, a new personal record for the freshman. Castellaneta and Rachel Doll rounded out the top five with a 9.375 and 9.225 respectively. On the bars, the Green and Gold blew the competition out of the water, notching a team score of 46.800, trumping their competition by over two-points. Doll led the charge on the event, with her routine earning a 9.475, the meets best score on the event. Kamberalis and Eck also had a strong outing in the event, turning in a 9.375 and 9.300. Castellaneta found success on the beam as well, posting a 9.600 even. The strongest performance of the day came on the floor, where the Golden Eagles nailed a 48.525, led by Musall (9.750) and Castellaneta (9.700).
 
Harriet Marranca Memorial Invite (W, 188.000):
The Golden Eagles met up with the Anchorwomen and Bombers again at the Harriet Marranca Memorial Invite, hosted by Ithaca College, where the Green and Gold finished second overall. The Golden Eagles saw defeat to Ithaca College, posting a 188.000 to the Bombers 190.350 finish but grabbed a win over RIC who trailed at 179.575.
 
Doll started the afternoon working her way to a third-place tie on the vault with a score of 9.575. Sklenar posted sixth overall in the event with a 9.500, allowing the Golden Eagles to nab their strongest score of the day (47.500).  Doll continued her momentum on the bars, notching a second-place finish of 9.525, the only top five finish in the event. Eck, Kamberalis and Jackson were next to place for the Green and Gold, Eck and Kamberalis holding a sixth-place tie at 9.425 and seventh-place for Jackson at 9.300. Chanya Earle and Sklenar held their own on the floor, Earle with a second-place finish of 9.575 and Sklenar with a 9.400.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will return to Brockport for their final home meet of the year against Ithaca and Springfield on Saturday, Jan. 18th at 1 p.m.
