Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport men's basketball team has two more home games this weekend, when Oneonta and New Paltz come to town. The Oneonta game is set for Friday night at 7:30 pm, while tip-off against New Paltz is 4 pm on Saturday.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles had a dominating first half in their last game against Buffalo State, ultimately defeating the Bengals 100-81 at home. Brockport put up 59 points in the first half, the most in a single half this season, and held a 30-point lead at halftime. Following the win, the team is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC heading into the weekend set.
Moving the Rock: The Green and Gold had a season-high 26 assists against Buffalo State, which is also tied for the team's third highest single game assist total since 2014-15 season. Good ball movement and passing up a good shot for a great shot resulted in Brockport's best shooting percentage of the year and its highest scoring output. The team shot 52.9% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc with the 26 assists on 36 made field goals. The willingness to make the extra pass resulted in five double-digit scorers in the contest.
New Career-Highs: Over the past two games
Tyler Collins and
Monte Stroman have both set new career-highs to help the team snag two in-conference victories. Stroman scored a career-best 18 points against Plattsburgh before snagging a personal-best five steals against Buffalo State. Collins posted the first double-double of his career the last time out, dishing a career-high 10 assists to go with 11 points.
Protecting the Nest: Brockport is currently undefeated on its home court, holding a 5-0 record when playing in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. Since the 2016-17 season the team is 33-5 at home. In home games this season the Green and Gold average 83.2 points per game and allow opponents to score 71.8 points a game. As expected the team shoots the ball better on its own floor shooting 46.3% from the field, 31.9% from downtown, and 70.7% at the foul line at home.
Scouting Oneonta: The Red Dragons are currently sitting in the top spot in the SUNYAC standings with a record of 8-3 overall and an undefeated 4-0 mark in conference. The team has won seven straight heading into Friday's game. Oneonta most recently defeated Cortland, 89-81, with five players scoring double figures. Harrison Deegan and Joseph Bull combined for 38 points, 22 rebounds, and 11 assists in the win. Deegan leads the squad with 15.4 points a game, while four others also average at least 10 points a game.
Scouting New Paltz: The Hawks are last in the conference going into the weekend with a record of 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz lost to Oswego, 84-59, in its last game and will take on Geneseo Friday ahead of Saturday's matchup with Brockport. The team has three scorers averaging double figures, with Tristan Wissemann leading the way averaging 14.2 points a game.
Looking Ahead: The Golden Eagles have a week to prepare for their next game, when they travel to play Geneseo on Saturday, January 25th. The game will tip-off at 4 pm.
