BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked No. 1 SUNY Brockport's women's gymnastics team is competing in Kent State's annual Pink Meet supporting breast cancer awareness on Friday. Along with the Golden Flashes, the Golden Eagles will also be facing the Bowling Green Falcons and the Ursinus Bears.
Pink Meet: In support of breast cancer, the first 300 fans will get pink beanies, and T-shirts are being sold at the event. All the proceeds will be donated to the Central Ohio Surgical Association Cares fund, which focuses on helping those who are or have been affected by breast cancer and helping the families.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles visited Ithaca College last weekend, placing second at the meet. The Golden Eagles posted a 186.550 team score. Individually, Nicole Jackson won the vault scoring a 9.825, and Brockport saw top three finishes by several athletes on the vault, uneven bars, and beam events.
NCGA Gymnast of the Week: Nikki Jackson was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week in a release by the association office on Monday. Jackson helped Brockport take second place at the 2020 Harriet Marranca Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College this past weekend. She posted the highest individual score out of all gymnasts at the meet with a 9.825 in the vault. She came back in the bars with a score of 9.250 in the event. Brockport had the highest team scores in vault and uneven bars at the meet, the only two events Jackson competed in on the day. The Golden Eagles finished with 186.550 total points, just 0.175 behind the host team Ithaca for first place. Jackson currently ranks seventh nationally in the vault with a national qualifying score (NQS) of 9.565 per roadtonationals.com.
National Rankings: Brockport has numerous gymnasts ranked nationally within DIII. Jackson (5
th) along with
Jamie Sklenar (6
th) rank in the top ten on the vault.
Amy Eck ranks 3
rd on the uneven bars, while Alexis Castellaneta ranks 9
th on the beam. Castellaneta also ranks on the floor (6
th) while
Kyra Figurelli and
Kim Musall are 9
th and 10
th respectively. As a team the Golden Eagles rank first nationally in the floor exercise with an NQS of 47.630. They rank second nationally in the all-around with a national qualifying score of 187.915, second in the vault with a team NQS of 47.375 and second nationally in the uneven bars with an NQS of 46.840.
Looking Ahead: After this weekend, the Golden Eagles will head to SUNY Cortland on March 8
th for their final regular season meet of the season, before the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association East Regional meet held on March 15
th at Springfield College.
