Montgomery & Greenwood Named All-ECAC First Team Defense

SUNY Brockport seniors Alaan Montgomery and Josh Greenwood were named to the 2021 Division IIII Football All-ECAC First Team in a release by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon. 

Montgomery was also a D3football.com All-American Fourth Team selection on Friday. He was an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection and a D3football.com All-Region pick earlier this year. This past season he tied the program's single season record with nine interceptions.  He capped the regular season leading all levels of college football (FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III) with an average of .9 interceptions per game.  He also added 30 tackles, two tackles for a loss and seven pass breakups.  20 of his 29 tackles were solo.  Over the course of his career, he had 12 interceptions, 13 pass breakups and 68 total tackles.
 
Montgomery helped guide a defensive unit that led Division III and tied the school-record with 27 total interceptions. The Golden Eagles finished third nationally with five defensive touchdowns and third nationally allowing just 119 first downs. The Brockport defense allowed an average of 12.0 per game and it allowed seven points or less in five of 11 games, including two shut outs.

Greenwood was also named an AFCA First Team All-American last week and he made his first career D3football.com All-Region team. Earlier this offseason he made his third straight appearance on an Empire 8 All-Conference team. He finished the year with a league best and a career-high 17.0 tackles for a loss.  He tied for third in the conference with 6.5 sacks and third on the team with a career-high 52 total tackles.  Over the course of four seasons, he totaled 143 tackles, 45.0 tackles for a loss, 21.5 sacks and five forced fumbles.
 
Greenwood helped lead a defensive unit that finished the year ranked fourth nationally in third down conversion defense (.244). The Golden Eagles also finished the year ranked third nationally in rushing defense, allowing just 42.3 yards rushing per game. 

Brockport made its fifth straight postseason appearance in 2021 and finished the season with an 8-3 overall record. The Golden Eagles have recorded 41 total victories over the course of the last four seasons.  Brockport capped its 2021 campaign with a 20-7 victory over Washington & Jefferson in the ECAC Clayton Chapman Bowl game.
