Conference Play Continues This Week for Men's Hoops

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will play a pair of SUNYAC opponents this weekend. The squad will travel to face Cortland for a 7:30 pm tip-off on Friday before returning home for a 4 pm game with Oswego.

Last Time Out: The Green and Gold edge out a 75-65 win against Fredonia earlier in the week to start conference play with a win. The team gets its fourth straight win after a loss in the season opener, improving to 4-1 overall. With 34 chances at the free throw line in the contest, Brockport shot just well enough to hold off any late comeback attempts by the visiting Blue Devils. Brockport benefitted from double digit scoring nights by Jahidi Wallace (17), Antonio Alvarez (16), Brandon Kennedy-Gay (13), and Joseph Pena (10).

Player of the Week: Jahidi Wallace was named the PrestoSports Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. Wallace dominated in Brockport's win on the road against Brooklyn College last week. The junior posted his first double-double of the year with season-highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds. He was efficient offensively, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 5-for-6 at the foul line. Wallace also finished with a career-high of three blocked shots defensively in the contest. Jahidi is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He has shot a healthy 52.8% from the floor and is converting on 81.5% of his free throw attempts.

Magic of The Vlog: The Golden Eagles added another win to their streak playing in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium against Fredonia. Now 2-0 this season and 15-0 last season at home, the squad remains unbeaten at The Vlog since February 16th, 2019. They have won 19 games in a row on the home court and have the chance to make it 20 on Saturday against Oswego.

Heading to Cortland: After a loss on the road to Oswego, 69-44, the Cortland Red Dragons are 0-1 in the SUNYAC and 2-3 overall so far this year. Friday night will be the first home game of the season for Cortland as the team aims to get its first conference win. #20 Austin Grunder is on pace for another big year, currently leading the team with 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. #55 Eric Edwards is second on the team in both categories, averaging 13.4 points and 7.2 boards a night. Brockport has won five straight against the Red Dragons going into the contest, including a wild 86-80 overtime win the last time the two teams met.

Welcoming Oswego: Saturday's matchup against Oswego will be at home, as the Lakers look to continue their strong start to the season. They head into the weekend 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC after a recent win over Cortland. The team's only loss came by way of a tight, 67-65, slip up against Nazareth last week. Oswego has three players averaging double figures at this point with #10 Kaleb Cook (13 ppg), #4 Julien Crittendon (13 ppg), and #23 Jeremiah Sparks (12.2 ppg). The Golden Eagles defeated Oswego three times during their incredible 2019-20 season, including an 82-67 victory in the SUNYAC Semifinals.

Looking Ahead: Brockport is on the road next weekend as it takes on another SUNYAC foe in Buffalo State. The contest is set to tip-off at 7:30 pm on Friday, December 10th.
