The SUNY Brockport men's and women's track & field teams both placed second Saturday at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. The meet marked the Golden Eagle's first action back since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the 2020 NCAA Div. III Indoor Championships. The men's team posted 173 team points, while the women compiled 130 team points.
All-American
Chanyce Powell got her season started on the right foot with a win in the triple jump as she posted a distance of 11.05 meters. Powell also placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.12 meters.
Mia Montgomery added a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.62 meters.
Alayna Fredenburg won the javelin throw with a collegiate best toss of 38.48 meters.
Sarah Crockett and
Emma Kinnicutt were the top two finishers in the women's shot put. Crocket posted a throw of 13.01 meters, while Kinnicutt added a toss of 11.24 meters in her collegiate debut. The duo also took third and fourth place in the women's hammer throw. Crockett posted a toss of 43.61 meters and Kinnicutt registered a throw of 42.79 meters in her first collegiate meet. Kinnicutt also added a first place finish in the discus with a throw of 37.70 to cap an impressive collegiate debut.
Sarah Levine and
Brianna Lawless finished third and fourth in the women's 100 meter dash with times of 12.95 and 13.11, respectively. Freshman
Rhea Winter placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.05.
Sarah Killip posted a clearance of 1.50 meters to place second in the high jump, while
Gillian Laco added a second place finish of her own in the pole vault (2.90 meters).
Brockport returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Geneseo Big Tree Invitational. Friday's meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
