Brockport, NY – The Brockport tennis team is scheduled to finish out the regular season this weekend with back-to-back road matchups. First up is Fredonia on the road for a 1 pm start on Saturday, while the final regular season match is at Oswego on Sunday at 1 pm.
Last Time Out: The Green and Gold hosted Oswego State last weekend for a SUNYAC matchup. It was Senior Day, as
Sarah Mahar and
Linda Coleman Lawrence were celebrated prior to their final home match at Brockport. The visiting Lakers spoiled the fun by sweeping the match, 9-0.
SUNYACs Coming Up: After the loss to Oswego, the Golden Eagles are now 0-3 overall and in SUNYAC competition. With the regular season ending this weekend, the SUNYAC Championships are set to start next week. Currently two games out of a spot in the tournament, Brockport is behind Geneseo (2-0), Fredonia (2-1), and Oswego (2-2) in the SUNYAC west standings.
Singles Play: Sarah Mahar,
Linda Coleman Lawrence, and
Caroline Stewart are the only three players to earn a win in singles play in this shortened season. Mahar is 1-2 in singles play this year, earning a win in second singles against Fredonia. Linda, also 1-2 playing solo, got her win against Fredonia as well in the third slot. Stewart is 1-0 in singles, getting that win in the first singles spot against Geneseo.
Double Trouble: Brockport has one doubles victory this season, once again coming against Fredonia.
Andrea Banke and
Linda Coleman Lawrence teamed up in the second doubles matchup, to earn the 8-6 win in the set. Banke remains 1-0 in doubles play this season, while Linda is 1-2 in duos action.
Against Fredonia: The Golden Eagles fell to the Blue Devils, 6-3, when they met up earlier in the year. Fredonia claimed three match points uncontested, due to a lack of active players for Brockport at the time. The Blue Devils are 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC, looking to clinch a spot in the conference championships.
Against Oswego: The Lakers swept Brockport, 9-0, the last time these two teams faced off. Oswego also took three uncontested points in the match. The team holds a 2-2 mark overall and in conference play, as it is fighting for a postseason spot as well.
What's Next: With the regular season coming to an end this weekend, the SUNYAC Championships are next on the schedule. If the Golden Eagles can earn a spot in the postseason, the SUNYAC Tournament will begin on Thursday, May 6
th. Matchups, locations, and match times have still yet to be announced.
