Doubles Domination
Brockport wasted no time establishing control, clinching the doubles point by sweeping all three flights. At first doubles, the pairing of
Cara Vasile and senior
Olivia Raschiatore set the tone with a clinical 6-3 victory.
The momentum carried over to the second doubles court, where senior
Olivia Chiu and
Kathleen Rogers cruised to a 6-2 win to secure the point. The Golden Eagles completed the doubles sweep at the third flight, where
Leah Banes and
Gianna Masker won by forfeit.
Singles Grind
While the doubles point came quickly, the singles matches required grit and resilience as Fredonia fought to stay in the match.
At the top of the lineup,
Cara Vasile faced a stiff challenge from Fredonia's Lucy Prevet. Vasile showed her composure in a high-stakes first set, edging out a 7-6 tiebreaker before closing the door with a 6-4 victory in the second.
The most dramatic comeback of the day came at second singles. After dropping the opening set 3-6 to Emily Solazzo,
Leah Banes found her rhythm. Banes dominated the final two sets 6-2 and 6-4 to complete the come-from-behind victory.
Senior Olivia Chio continued to shine in their final collegiate appearance. Chiu was flawless at third singles, dispatching Amelia Stathatos with a consistent 6-3, 6-3 performance.
At fourth singles,
Gianna Masker outlasted Rylyn Tunstall in a marathon match. After taking the first set 6-2 and dropping the second in a 6-7 tiebreaker, Masker showed incredible stamina to claim the third set, 10-8.
Rounding out the scorecard,
Madison Ballone earned a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win at fifth singles, while new team member Toabar secured the victory at sixth singles by forfeit.
Season Wrap-Up
With the win, Brockport finishes the season with a 4-7 overall record and a 2-6 mark in conference play. For Chiu and Raschiatore, the afternoon served as a conclusion to their careers, finishing their spring slate in dominating fashion on their home courts. The Golden Eagles will look to build on this momentum as they head into the off-season.
