Women in 3rd & Men in 4th After Day 1 of AARTFC Championships

Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport track and field team completed day one of the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships (AARTFC) on Wednesday. The women sit in third place after the first day with 30 points, while the men sit in fourth place with 22 points.
 
With a leap of 11.42 meters, Chanyce Powell took second place in the women's triple jump, while teammate Mia Montgomery finished third. Taj Shaw earned fourth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.32 meters.
 
Alayna Fredenburg recorded a throw of 38.67 meters in the javelin to earn third place. On the men's side for throwers, Matt Faulise and Elijah Washington took fifth and sixth in the hammer throw with distances of 51.50 and 51.22 meters.
 
In the women's hammer throw, the Golden Eagles had three place inside the top 10. Olivia George took third with a distance of 48.83. Alayna Fredenburg's throw of 46.55 meters was good for sixth and teammate Sarah Crockett placed eighth with a mark of 45.80 meters.
 
In the preliminary round of the men's 100-meter dash, Olivier Kothor had the best time of the day to earn his spot in the finals for the event on Thursday. Kothor set a new personal record with his time of 10.65.
 
In the women's 100-meter dash preliminary heats, Sarah Levine and Brianna Lawless earned spots in the finals on Thursday after taking fifth and sixth on day one. Levine's time of 12.68 marks a new personal record for her in the event.
 
After day one for the multi athletes, Mike Panzarino has 2,763 points and sits in 11th place in the men's decathlon. For the women's heptathlon Madison Baker holds steady in eighth place with 1,928 points.
 
With a personal best time of 31:36.89, Ethan Carey took first place in the men's 10,000-meter event. Sarah Tingley ran a 40:27.57 in the women's 10,000-meter run, recording a new personal record time to take 10th in the event.
 
Thursday will be the final day of competition at the AARTFC, hosted by St. John Fisher. Events begin tomorrow at 11 am.
