Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team steps into SUNYAC play on Wednesday for a big matchup against Geneseo. The team is on the road for this one, as the match gets started at 6 pm.
Last Time Out: Brockport hosted the Golden Eagle Invitational last weekend which feature the team going 4-0 in two days of action. On day one the squad swept the University of Rochester, 3-0, and then went on to beat Thiel College, 3-1. The next day the Green and Gold were pushed to five sets by Ithaca College before prevailing, 3-2. The team then closed out the weekend with a 3-0 sweep against Nazareth.
Win Streak: After the unbeaten weekend at the home invitational, the Golden Eagles improved to 8-1 overall this season. They have now won seven matches in a row and are riding the momentum into the beginning of SUNYAC play on Wednesday. The team has been performing great all season so far and remain in the receiving votes category in the most recent AVCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The squad is off to a hot start compared to the 2019 season, which saw a 3-6 record through the first nine matches.
Athlete of the Week: On Monday the conference selected
Meaghan Mastro as the PrestoSports Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week. Mastro held down the middle of the net from her blocker position all week, as Brockport extended its win streak to seven while improving to 8-1 overall. With 11 solo blocks and 11 block assists, the graduate student totaled 22 blocks for the week. She averaged 1.22 blocks per set and recorded at least two solo blocks in four of the team's five wins. She also contributed defensively with 16 digs, including nine in a five-set victory over Ithaca.
Hitting Hard: Andrea Coyle currently leads the team and ranks third in the SUNYAC with 90 kills so far this season. She is averaging 3.21 kills per set and owns a .215 hitting percentage.
Meaghan Mastro is right behind her, ranking fifth in the conference with 80 kills. She is putting up 2.50 kills per set and a hitting percentage of .287. Ranking sixth in the SUNYAC,
Megan Loomis has a total of 70 kills for 2.92 kills per set and a .182 hitting percentage.
Above the Net: Meaghan Mastro currently leads the SUNYAC with 14 solo blocks from her middle blocker position. She also has 13 block assists, as she ranks second in the conference with 27 total blocks on the season.
Myah Frostclapp is fourth in the conference with 23 total blocks coming from seven solo and 16 block assists.
Helping Hands: Kerri McHale is currently tied for tops in the conference with her tally of 202 assists so far this year. She is leading the team with a mark of 6.73 assists per set.
Ashley Allen has registered 121 assists, which places her in a tie for seventh most in the SUNYAC. Allen is putting up 4.65 assists per set this season.

Madalyn Bowen has gotten down for 155 digs so far this year.
Shelby Budnick is second on the team with 65 digs, as she is just ahead of
Andrea Coyle who has 61.
Kerri McHale and
Meaghan Mastro are both over 50 digs for the season so far.
Ellen Paddock has recorded 49 digs for the Green and Gold. Budnick, Coyle, McHale, Mastro, and Paddock are all top 25 in the conference in digs.
2019 SUNYAC Finals Rematch: Wednesday's match against Geneseo is not only the start of SUNYAC play for both teams, but it is also a rematch of the 2019 SUNYAC Finals. Brockport defeated the Knights, 3-1, to claim the 2019 SUNYAC Title. The Knights are 2-5 overall so far in 2021 as they are coming off of a 3-0 victory in a sweep over Elizabethtown. This will be Geneseo's first home match of the season as Brockport begins its title defense.
Looking Ahead: The Golden Eagles will prepare for the Messiah Tournament down in Grantham, PA hosted by Messiah College. Day one of the action starts at 5 pm against Mary Washington, with the final day featuring 10 am and 2 pm matchups with Messiah College and Juniata College.
