Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team is at home Tuesday night for a matchup with the Roberts Wesleyan Red Hawks. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles participated at the Mount Union Invitational last weekend out in Alliance, OH. They fell to Mount Union on day one, 3-1, to get the weekend started. On day two the squad bounced back with a 3-0 win over Baldwin Wallace. The final match of the invite was against Carnegie Mellon, who is receiving top 25 votes in the preseason AVCA Division III Coaches Poll. Brockport got a hard-fought win, defeating its opponent 3-2, to improve to 3-1 overall. Following all the action,
Meaghan Mastro was named to the Mount Union Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Above the Net: Andrea Coyle,
Megan Loomis, and
Meaghan Mastro lead the way in the kills category for the Green and Gold. Coyle has registered a team-best 41 kills, Loomis has 39 kills, and Mastro has 33 so far this year. Coyle is second in the conference at this point in the season with Loomis and Mastro both cracking the top 10. Defensively,
Myah Frostclapp has denied opposing attackers with a team-high of eight total blocks. Loomis and Mastro have combined for 11 blocks playing above the net.
Setting the Table: After the first week of the season,
Kerri McHale has proven to be productive in her role as a setter. She has already passed the century mark with 101 assists on the season to lead the SUNYAC. Playing in 15 sets so far, McHale is averaging 6.73 assists per set which ranks second in the conference so far.
Ashley Allen is second on the squad with 38 assists and is inside the top 15 within the conference.
Grab a Shovel: Madalyn Bowen currently leads the Green and Gold in digs and ranks third in the SUNYAC at this point in the year. After just four matches she has accumulated 70 digs, including a season-high of 31 in the squad's win over Carnegie Mellon.
Kerri McHale is second on the team with 40 digs, while
Meaghan Mastro has gotten down for 36 of her own.
Looking at Roberts: Roberts Wesleyan comes to Brockport after competing at the Lock Haven Tournament this past weekend. The Red Hawks are 0-4 overall after the tournament with losses to Notre Dame (Ohio), Lock Haven, Slippery Rock, and Malone. Sydney Yanak and Emily Rowlison are tied for the team lead with 17 kills each. These two teams met up during the 2019 season, as Brockport got the win, 3-2, in a five-set thriller. After losing the first two sets, Roberts won the next two to force a fifth set but Brockport held the Red Hawks off.
Golden Eagle Invitational: This weekend the squad will host the Golden Eagle Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Brockport will take on the University of Rochester at 5 pm and Thiel College at 7:30 pm on September 10
th. The next day the team closes out the weekend with matchups against Ithaca at 1:30 pm and Nazareth at 3:30 pm.
