Brockport, NY – The 2019 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) champion Brockport Golden Eagles returned to the gym for their first meet in 678 days, hosting Cortland and Ithaca in the Brockport Tri-meet. The Golden Eagles didn't seem to miss a step from the two-year gap, posting a win with a solid 187.275 to open the new season.
The season opening victory also marked the first win at Brockport for Head Coach Rene Lyst who took over the reins of the Golden Eagles this past Fall. Senior
Lexi Castellaneta put on an impressive performance as she won all three of the events she entered.

Vault: Brockport looked in total control on the vault to open the meet. Posting a team score of 47.600, the Golden Eagles were in a good position from their first event. Senior
Lexi Castellaneta won the event, posting a 9.725, while sophomore
Emma Grace Sargent took second overall with a 9.650. Junior
Kyra Figurelli rounded out the top three, finishing in a tie for third with a 9.525.

Uneven Bars: The Golden Eagles worked through some slight hiccups on the bars, still posting a team score of 44.55. Junior
Gabbi Gare won the event, posting a 9.50 while sophomore
Sydney Schumaker took second overall with a 9.35. Sophomore
Taylor Bushey was Brockport's third highest performer, taking ninth overall with an 8.80.

Beam: A strong showing on the beam for the Golden Eagles kept the momentum going coming out of their first break in the rotations with a team score of 46.975.
Lexi Castellaneta continued a very strong afternoon with her second individual event win of the day, posting a 9.525. Sophomore's
Natalie Galioto and
Sydney Schumaker were third and fourth overall on the beam, while senior
Dorothy Wernick finished fifth overall.

Floor: Posting their highest score of the day on floor, Brockport showed why it is one of their deeper events with a score of 48.125.
Lexi Castellaneta won her third event of the day, posting an impressive 9.825. Junior

Natalie Galioto finished tied for third overall with a 9.625, while sophomore
Kirsten Paultre finished seventh overall.

Brockport hits the road next weekend for a meet at Rhode Island College on January 22nd. The Golden Eagles next home meet is at 1 p.m. on February 5
th against Rhode Island College and as Brockport celebrates Senior Day.
