Brockport, NY – Coming off a strong showing during the opening meet of the 2022 season, the Brockport Golden Eagles head to Rhode Island College for a dual-meet on Saturday at 12 p.m.
Brockport's score of 187.275 during their Brockport tri-meet last weekend was their highest season-opening score in program history and put them at the top of the RoadToNationals.com all-around team rankings. Highlighted during the meet was Head Coach Rene Lyst's first victory at the helm of the Golden Eagles as well as senior
Lexi Castellaneta's three event victories (Vault, Beam and Floor).

Gymnast of the Week: Lexi Castellaneta was named the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Specialist of the Week following her impressive performance in the season opener at home last weekend.
Vault: Brockport tops the national rankings on vault with a team score of 47.600 during their opening meet. Senior
Lexi Castellaneta also sits atop the national rankings individually with a 9.725, while sophomore
Emma Grace Sargent is second with a 9.650. Junior
Kyra Figurelli is tied for fourth nationally with a score of 9.525 during the opening meet. Freshman
Laken Sooy is expected to make her first competitive pass on the vault this weekend.
Uneven Bars: Junior
Gabbi Gare led the way on the bars last weekend for the Golden Eagles, posting a 9.500 and ranking fifth in the nation individually. Sophomore
Sydney Schumaker ranks eighth nationally with a 9.325. Brockport sits at fourth nationally as a team, and first in the NCGA East, with a 44.550.
Beam: The second ranked team in the country on the beam, Brockport posted an impressive 46.975 on the beam in their opening meet. Senior
Lexi Castellaneta ranks third nationally, behind her opening day 9.525 on the event. Sophomore's
Natalie Galioto and
Sydney Schumaker and senior
Dorothy Wernick are all ranked in the top 10 nationally.
Floor: Brockport's strongest event from the opening meet, the Golden Eagles flew high with a team score of 48.150, and five gymnasts ranking in the top 10 nationally. Senior
Lexi Castellaneta tops the national rankings with an individual score of 9.825. Junior Kyra Figurella and sophomore
Natalie Galioto sit tied for fourth nationally with a score of 9.625. Sophomore
Kirsten Paultre ranks ninth nationally while freshman
Maya Pecoraro is in a tie for 10
th nationally.
About Rhode Island College: The Rhode Island College Anchorwomen are opening their season this weekend after their opening meet at Southern Connecticut State University was postponed due to health protocols. Later this season, RIC will visit Brockport on Saturday, February 5
th.
Note: Rhode Island College is not allowing spectators at any athletic events currently.
